Add the Bot to Your Server

You add the bot from the dashboard. It takes a minute, and afterwards the dashboard opens your server on its own.

Before you start

  • You need the Manage Server permission (or ownership) in the server you want to add the bot to. The dashboard only lists servers where you have it.
  • You need a Discord account that is logged in to Discord in your browser, or you log in when Discord asks.

Invite the bot

  1. Open the dashboard's home page and click Login with Discord (or Login at the top right).

Start by logging in with Discord
  2. Discord asks you to authorize the dashboard. It reads your username, avatar, email address and the list of servers you are in. It never reads your messages.

  3. Back on the home page, click Manage Servers. The Your Servers page lists every server where you have Manage Server.

  4. Find your server. A server that already has the bot reads Bot active · Click to manage; a server without it reads Click to invite bot. Click the card of the server you want.

Servers without the bot show Click to invite bot
  5. Discord opens its authorization page with your server already selected. Review the permissions and click Authorize, then complete any check Discord shows.

  6. You return to Your Servers, which reads "Adding the bot to your server. The dashboard opens as soon as it joins." As soon as the bot arrives, your server's dashboard opens.

By default the bot asks only for the permissions its modules use (sending and managing messages, managing roles, channels, webhooks and nicknames, kicking, banning, timing out and moving members, viewing the audit log and managing the server for invite tracking). It does not ask for Administrator. The bot's operator can change this list, so review what Discord shows before you authorize.

Check the role order

Discord only lets the bot manage roles that sit below its own highest role. Level rewards, birthday roles, auto roles, mute roles and moderation actions on members all depend on this.

  1. In Discord, open Server Settings > Roles.
  2. Drag the bot's role above every role it should give or take away.
  3. In the dashboard, open Permissions in the sidebar and check the Role Hierarchy column. Roles at or above me lists the roles the bot cannot manage; any role it must hand out should not be in that list.
Level 30 sits above the bot's role, so the bot cannot give it out

Check the bot's permissions

The left column of the Permissions page, Server Permissions, shows every Discord permission the bot has (green) or lacks (red). If you removed permissions while authorizing, or a role edit took them away, you see it here.

Manage Roles is missing: role rewards and mutes will fail

To give a permission back, edit the bot's role in Server Settings > Roles in Discord. See Roles and Permissions for the per-channel view.

Troubleshooting

My server is not on the Your Servers page. You do not have the Manage Server permission there. Ask the server owner to give you a role with it, then reload the page.

The page says the bot hasn't joined yet. If you did finish the authorization in Discord, click Try again. If you closed Discord's page early, click the server's Click to invite bot card again.

The page says the bot joined, but you need the Manage Server permission. The bot is in the server, but your account cannot manage it. Someone with Manage Server can open the dashboard, or can give you that permission.

I cancelled the invite by mistake. The page shows "Bot invite cancelled." Click the server's card again to start over.
