First-Time Setup Checklist

Work through these tasks once, right after adding the bot. Each one links to the dashboard page (in the server you opened last) and to the guide that explains it. You can skip any module you do not plan to use.

Settings for a configured server: accent color, timezone, permission roles and a vanity URL
  1. Set your server's timezone. Birthday announcements, scheduled leaderboard posts, stat channel updates and the dashboard's charts follow it. Pick it under Locale & Timezone and click Save Changes. Open Settings - guide: Server Settings

  2. Choose staff and admin roles. Members with these roles can use the bot's staff and admin commands. They do not get dashboard access: that always requires Manage Server. Open Settings - guide: Roles and Permissions

  3. Send server events to a log channel. Turn on Mod Logs and add a channel for the events your staff want to see (bans, deleted messages, joins and so on). Open Mod Logs - guide: Mod Logs

  4. Review the moderation basics. On the Moderation Settings tab, pick a Mute Role and use DM user on action to decide whether members get a DM when they are warned, muted, kicked or banned. Open Moderation - guide: Moderation

  5. Welcome new members. Turn on Welcomer, pick a Join Channel and customize the join message, and optionally a Welcome Image or a Welcome DM. Open Welcomer - guide: Templates and Packs

  6. Reward activity with levels. Turn on Levels, check the XP rates, choose where level-up messages go, then add role rewards on the Reward Tracks tab. Open Levels - guide: Levels

  7. Give the bot a local look. Set a nickname, avatar, banner and bio for the bot in just this server. Open Bot Profile - guide: Bot Profile

  8. Check the staff logs. Every change you just made is recorded, with who made it and from where. Get used to looking here when a setting changes unexpectedly. Open Staff Logs - guide: Staff Logs

Tip

Before you turn on role rewards, birthday roles or a mute role, make sure the bot's role is above those roles in Server Settings > Roles. See Check the role order.

What next

  • Browse the other modules under Modules in the docs sidebar: Analytics, Automations, Birthdays, Feeds, Forms and Sticky Messages.
  • Tell your members about the For Members pages: they explain commands, privacy and forms from a member's point of view.
