Automations - Setup
This walkthrough builds a rule that deletes Discord invite links, warns the author and posts a log, while letting moderators post invites freely.
- Check the module is on. Open Automations. Automations is on by default; the switch is at the top of the panel.
- Create the rule. Click New Rule, then fill in Rule Name (required) and an optional Description. Leave Enabled on.
- Pick the trigger. Under Trigger, set Run this rule when to When a message is sent.
- Add conditions. Under Conditions, click Add Condition Group. In Group 1, set Match to OR and add two Content contains text conditions:
discord.gg/anddiscord.com/invite/. - Exclude moderators. Add a second group with User has any of these roles, pick your moderator roles and click NOT so the condition means "does not have". Set Groups must to AND so both groups have to pass.
- Add actions. Under Actions, click Add Action three times and choose:
- Delete the message
- Warn the member, with a Reason such as "Posting invite links"
- Post a log message, with a Log Channel and a Log Template (a template saved in the Message Builder) Actions run from top to bottom; use the arrows to reorder them.
- Adjust Advanced (optional). Set a Cooldown (seconds) and who it applies to, a Max executions per user, the Rule order, Allow further rules, Log to mod log, and whether the rule also runs for bots and webhooks or for the bot's own events; see Settings.
- Save. Click Create at the top of the editor (Save when you edit an existing rule). The rule starts working immediately.
- Test it. From an account without the moderator role, post
discord.gg/test. The message disappears, the member gets a warning case, and the log message appears. The rule's run count on the Rules tab goes up.
Tip
Test a new rule with a harmless action first, such as Post a log message to a staff channel. When it fires only when you expect, add the real actions.
Managing rules
- The switch on a rule turns it on or off;
/automations toggledoes the same from Discord. - The pencil edits a rule, the copy icon duplicates it and the trash icon deletes it after you confirm.
- Each rule shows its trigger, how many conditions and actions it has, its cooldown, how many times it ran and its order. Rules run in the order listed.
