Mod Logs - Setup

Before you start

The bot needs these permissions in each log channel: View Channel, Send Messages, Attach Files (for bulk delete archives) and Manage Webhooks (to create the webhook it posts through). To name who did something (the moderator behind a ban, the person who deleted a message), it also needs View Audit Log in the server.

Add your first log channel

  1. Open Mod Logs and turn the module on with the switch at the top of the panel.
  2. Click Add Channel and pick the Discord channel. Text, voice and stage channels work; forum and media channels cannot receive log messages.
  3. On the Log Types tab, pick the types this channel receives. The left column lists the six categories with a count of selected types; click a category to see its types. Select all and Deselect all at the top act on every type, and the link next to a category's name selects or clears that category.
  4. Optionally set up the Filters tab (see Filtering) and the Webhook tab (see Settings).
  5. Click Add Channel. The bot creates its webhook in the channel right away.

Note

A channel with no log types selected receives nothing. There is no "log everything" default: pick the types you want.

Each Discord channel can have one log channel configuration. Use the switch on a log channel to pause it without losing its settings, the pencil to edit it and the trash icon to remove it (the Discord channel and the bot's webhook in it are left as they are).

Routing recipes

Split events by audience so each channel stays readable:

ChannelLog types
#mod-logsAll of Moderation, plus Bot Alert and DM Failed from Bot
#message-logsAll of Messages
#member-logsAll of Members
#server-logsAll of Server
#voice-logsAll of Voice

A small server can send everything to one #server-logs channel with Select all.

Tips:

  • Busy servers produce many message logs. Keep them in their own channel, and consider a Blocklist filter for spammy channels such as #bot-commands or #counting.
  • For a channel members can see, pick only the types you are happy to show, such as Ban, Kick and Warning.
  • Message Deleted (Not Cached) fires for deletes of messages the bot never saw (sent before it started, for example). It shows only where and when, not the text.
  • With the Moderation module on, bans, kicks and timeouts done in Discord are recorded as cases, so their entries carry a case number.
