Mod Logs - Filtering
Every log channel decides two things:
- Which log types it receives (the Log Types tab). A type that is not ticked is never posted there.
- Which events of those types it keeps (the Filters tab), described on this page.
Filters belong to one log channel, so #mod-logs and #message-logs can filter differently.
Allowlist or Blocklist
Pick the mode at the top of the Filters tab:
- Blocklist (the default): "Skip events that match the lists below." Everything else is logged.
- Allowlist: "Only log events that match the lists below." Everything else is skipped.
Then fill in any of the lists: Exclude categories, Exclude roles and Exclude channels in Blocklist mode, Include categories, Include roles and Include channels in Allowlist mode. Switching modes keeps your selections. Empty lists do nothing. The channel list shows the filter as a badge, for example "Blocklist: 2 filters".
How an event is matched:
- Channels and categories form one list. An event matches when its channel or its category is listed. Threads and forum posts also match their parent channel, so blocking
#supportalso skips its threads. - Roles match when the member the event is about has any listed role. This applies to message, voice and member events; events with no member roles are never role-filtered.
- Events with no channel (joins, leaves, bans, role changes, server changes) are never filtered by channel or category, even in Allowlist mode.
- In Allowlist mode, every list you fill in must match. An allowlist of
#generalplus the Staff role keeps only staff activity in#general.
Excluding bot events
Switch on Exclude bot events to skip events by or about bot accounts, for example other bots' messages being edited or deleted. Actions the bot takes for a staff member, such as a /ban, still count as that staff member's and are kept.
Per-type overrides
A per-type override skips events of one log type from certain channels, categories or roles, on top of the filters above. Overrides are always blocklists, whichever mode the channel uses.
- On the Filters tab, click Add override under Per-type overrides.
- Pick the Log type (only types the channel receives are offered).
- Choose what to exclude under Exclude categories, Exclude roles and Exclude channels.
- Click Add, then Save Changes.
For example, keep logging deleted messages everywhere except in #media, and not for your moderators, without affecting any other log type in that channel. The X on an override removes it.
Common filters
| Goal | How |
|---|---|
| Ignore a noisy channel | Blocklist, add it under Exclude channels |
| Ignore staff-only channels | Blocklist, add the staff category under Exclude categories |
| Log only one area of the server | Allowlist, add that category |
| Skip other bots' message edits and deletes | Exclude bot events |
| Keep one log type out of one channel | A per-type override |
