Filtering
By default every member earns XP everywhere the bot can see. The XP Filters section at the bottom of Levels > Settings narrows that down. There is no separate filtering tab.
The four filters
| Filter | Checks |
|---|---|
| Channel filter | The channel the message was sent in, or the voice channel. A thread or forum post counts as its parent channel. |
| Category filter | The category that channel is in. Channels outside any category always pass. |
| Role filter | The member's roles. |
| User filter | The member themselves. |
Each filter has its own mode:
| Mode | Effect |
|---|---|
| Off (default) | The filter is ignored. |
| Allowlist | Only the selected channels, categories, roles or users can earn XP. |
| Blocklist | The selected channels, categories, roles or users cannot earn XP. |
A filter in Allowlist or Blocklist mode with nothing selected also lets everything through.
For the role filter, Allowlist means the member needs at least one of the selected roles, and Blocklist means any one of the selected roles stops them.
How filters combine
Every filter that is switched on must pass. For example, with a channel Allowlist of #general and #chat and a role Blocklist of @Muted, a member earns XP only in #general or #chat, and only while they do not have @Muted.
Filters apply to text and voice XP alike. Click Save Changes after editing them.
Recipes
- Keep bot spam out: Channel filter on Blocklist with your bot-commands channel.
- Ignore a whole section: Category filter on Blocklist with your staff or archive category.
- Verified members only: Role filter on Allowlist with your verified role.
- Pause one member: User filter on Blocklist with that member.
What filters do not change
- Filters stop new XP only. XP a member already has stays, and so do their rewards.
- Global XP ignores this server's filters.
