Level-up Messages

When a member's combined level goes up, the bot can announce it in up to three places. Each place has its own message template, so the wording can differ.

Choose where level-ups are announced

Open Levels > Settings and use Level-up Notifications:

ToggleDefaultSends the message
Current channelOnIn the channel where the level-up happened: the text channel of the message, or the text chat of the voice channel for a voice level-up.
DM the memberOffAs a direct message to the member. Members who do not accept DMs from server members get nothing.
Dedicated channelOffAlways in the Level-up channel you pick (a text channel).

Turn on any combination, or none for silent level-ups. Click Save Changes when you are done.

Change a message

  1. Click the pencil button (Edit message template) next to the toggle. The Template Group dialog opens for that message.
  2. Click the pencil button on a template to edit it in the Message Builder, or add more templates to the group and pick how one is chosen each time (for example at random or in turn).
  3. Save. The change applies from the next level-up.

Each template can use the member's {author.*} variables, {server.*}, {level} (the new level) and {xp_type} (text or voice, whichever activity caused the level-up). See Variables.

These are the default messages:

Level Up - Announcement Channel: mentions the member
Level Up - Current Channel: names the member without a ping
Level Up - DM: names the server

Good to know

  • A member who jumps several levels at once (possible at low levels with large XP awards) gets one message with their new level.
  • XP changed with /xp add, /xp remove, /xp reset or a MEE6 import never sends a level-up message.
  • If the bot cannot post in a channel, that message is skipped and the others are still sent.
  • Every level-up also fires the on_level_up_text or on_level_up_voice trigger ("When a member levels up via text XP" or "via voice XP") in Automations, so you can do more on a level-up, such as posting a custom message at level 50.
